The sense of pride and joy that comes along with becoming a Dad is amazing to see. The look on my husband’s face when he held our son for the first time is something I honestly will never forget, and watching him grow in fatherhood and “learn the ropes” has been something I have loved witnessing over the last 18 months. I know that during pregnancy and the newborn stage there is a lot of attention on the Mom and the new baby. And don’t get me wrong, we deserve it! I think any Dad’s first Father’s Day is a milestone and a special chance to celebrate them! As we approach our husband’s second Father’s Days, Katie and I wanted to share some of our favorite gift ideas for new Dads!
Daddy Diaper Bag
When we were completing our baby registry my husband was an absolute trooper! He helped me pick out the furniture and he was in charge of choosing the baby monitor and humidifier, but when it came to bedding, decorations and the diaper bag I got free reign. I choose a beautiful cream diaper bag with gold accents from Ergobaby. It is super functional, but it's also pretty and feminine. While my husband never once complained about using the diaper bag, when Father's Day was approaching I wanted to find him a bag that was more masculine for him to use on his outings with our little man. I found an amazing option from Columbia that is made of more durable material for all of their hiking adventures, it's a darker color to hide the mud and dirt they love to play in, and overall it's more masculine. My husband loves having his own diaper bag! I didn't realize how convenient it would be either! I'm never hunting down one bag, we now have one that stays in my car and one that stays in my husband’s truck! A daddy diaper bag to symbolize the fun and time they will spend with their little one is a great gift idea for a new (or expecting) dad this Father’s day!
Your Baby’s First Word Will Be DaDa
Reading is such a bonding experience between parents and littles. We were actually gifted this book, Your Baby’s First Word Will Be DaDa, by our friends and my husband has loved reading this book with our son. Part of our bedtime routine is reading a book and I found my husband choosing this book most nights when our son was learning to talk. While the book didn’t prove to be true (our son’s first word was actually “kiki”) it’s a great option for a new dad this Father's Day. Dads will get a kick out of the book, written by funny man Jimmy Fallon, and littles will love the pictures of the animals.
Your Father’s Story
If you spend any amount of time with me, you will quickly know my life story. I am an open book! And as my husband lovingly calls me a “Chatty Cathy.” My husband on the other hand, is more reserved and likes to take his time before sharing anything. Last year when his 1st Father’s Day was approaching I was wandering around Target and found the perfect gift for him. Your Father's Story is a journal from Dad to their children that Dads can fill out with prompts like “what was your first car?” and “how did you feel when you first met my mom?” When I say I started tearing up in the middle of Target, I am not exaggerating. The idea of my husband sharing his life milestones with our son, in a format that he will be able to keep forever makes my Mom heart want to explode. This is a wonderful, sentimental gift idea for new dads this Father's Day that they will truly treasure.
Yeti Coffee Tumbler
Coffee is the magic elixir that helps all new parents survive! It comes in handy those early mornings after long sleepless nights. But what I can tell you as a parent is that you will make yourself a nice hot cup of coffee, and then put it down and forget about it while you make a bottle, change a diaper, or soothe your baby. Getting to drink your coffee while it’s hot is truly a gift! The Yeti Rambler is an insulated tumbler that will keep your coffee hot for hours (or your beer cold, whatever floats your boat.) The rambler comes in over 30 colors so you can choose your partner’s favorite, and its dishwasher safe! Katie’s husband has this tumbler and uses it almost every day! His favorite feature is that it actually fits into his cupholder in the car unlike most coffee mugs. It makes it easy to take his coffee with him on the way to work in the morning.
LEGO Duplo Set
I love to give experience gifts! Whether it be a trip or activity that we can do together or something thing that we can make together - anything that gets people to spend time together and enjoy each other’s company. This concept was a little bit of a challenge for my husband’s first Father’s Day, how many activities can you do with a baby? I was so excited when I stumbled across the LEGO Duplo My First Space Rocket set. My husband loves Legos and finding this set was perfect for him to introduce our son to legos for the first time. One of the best things about legos is that you can build and re-build them time and time again. My husband loves building the rocket ship and my son loves taking it apart! They’ve spent hours playing with this gift in the last year and I imagine that there are many more lego sets for the two of them in the future.

Bondaroo Skin-to-Skin Shirt
Do you have a baby on the way? Or a baby that will be a newborn during your partner’s first Father’s Day? The DadWare Bondaroo Shirt is perfect for a new Dad. Research has shown the benefits of skin-to-skin contact with newborns like calming Dad and baby, decreasing crying, and boosting the father-child bond. The Bondaroo is the perfect shirt for allowing Dad’s to have easy access to skin-to-skin with baby, in a shirt that looks great! Katie’s husband used one of these shirts after R was born and he loved the bond it allowed him to feel with his son and how close they could be. They offer the shirt in long and short sleeve options so it can work for Dads no matter what time of year your little is born.
