When it comes to baby toys, there are literally thousands of options. Some are loud, some are bright, some are….well, just plain ugly. Whatever they are, the chances are that they are going to take over your house. Even with a dedicated play area or playroom, the toys will make their way out to where you and your baby are. Knowing this, when looking at baby and toddler toys, I wanted to get some that could be on display around our house without necessarily making it look like a toy store.

I started a search for cute baby toys that would look good while still also being appealing to my son and developmentally friendly. That means they had some color, were sensory friendly, helped develop gross motor skills and fine motor skills, and let my son have fun. If you’re on the hunt for some aesthetically pleasing toys, this list will show you some of the cutest toys around that your baby will still love.

Wooden Tumbling Toys

These wooden tumbling toys are great for touch, sight, hearing and grip. Each "ball" features a mirror, shaker balls or a fluffy texture which offer a variety for your little one. R loved the mirror as a baby and his favorite eventually became the shaker ball. The size is also perfect for a little hand to learn how to grip. I like this brand in particular because their toys are sustainably made and use non-toxic paints and dyes.

Mushie Stacking Cups

Stacking cups are a great toy for many ages and developmental stages, from a baby learning to grip, to banging the cups together, to knocking over the stack and stacking them back up. We love our mushie stacking cups because they are great for working on motor skills, come in beautiful colors and are free from BPA, PVC and phthalates.

Canvas Swing

This canvas swing is not only cute but REALLY fun for your child. This doesn't take up much space and can be anchored from your ceiling for indoor play. With the light canvas material, it fits in with any home decor and it will be a guaranteed hit with your child during play time.

Activity Mirror

One of the best toys for tummy time is a mirror and this Skip Hop activity mirror looks nice while still being functional for your baby and fun with the added "rays" for some sensroy play. We also love this mirror option.

Stacking Blocks

Blocks are a staple kids toy because they can use them for years for building and imaginative play. We have these soft stacking blocks that we adore. The rich colors look great on display, you can use the blocks to practice building, counting and shape identification, and they are a soft block so babies can play with them too.

Wooden Activity Gym

One of our most used baby toys was this wooden play gym. We used this for the first several months of R's life and then when he grew out of it, we passed it on to his cousin L so she could use it for hers too! We loved this one because it folds up and was lightweight so we could move it around our house onto any soft surface or bring it with us when we traveled. The wooden color and simple frame look great and you can buy personalized danglers your baby will love that will also fit the style of your house.

Note: our wooden gym was made for us by a family friend, but I've linked a similar wooden foldable one available on Amazon!

Wooden Abacus Toy

Better for toddler age, this fruit themed wooden abacus from Target is a cute toy to have on display in your home. This toy will come in handy for helping your child identify fruits, identify colors and learning to count. For a slightly updated look, you can buy this version at Amazon.

Rainbow Rocker

We were gifted this Rainbow Rocker and truly love it. The colors are fun but not offensively bright. I love that a child can learn about symmetry and balance while using their creativity to build it up.

Magnetic Wooden Pull Truck

My son has loved this pull truck toy since the day I brought it home from Ikea when he was 8 months old. This toy has a magnetic crane that will lift the shaped pieces off the "truck bed" which helps kids work out how to line up the crane, bend it to get the right angle, etc. The truck bed is also a shape sorter so you can help your child work on identifying colors and shapes to go in the right space. It's fun to push as a truck or you can use the pull string for those crawlers and walkers. Personally, R loved taking the pieces out and throwing them across the room...and here we are 12 months later and he loves using it for all of the above!

Pikler Triangle

You might not think about getting a pikler triangle for a newborn since most people think of this as a toddler toy, but it can be useful with a newborn too! The main triangle is a great place to hang toys and use as an activity gym until they are old enough to use it for climbing, crawling and sliding. Wooden Pikler triangles can come in various stains to fit the theme of your house and with their simple design, they don't draw a ton of attention.

Note: our pikler triangle was made for us by a family friend, but I've linked a similar foldable wooden one available on Amazon!

Nugget Couch

Our Nugget Comfort couch is one of our most used items in our house and has been since we got it. It can be a soft play area for your little one and a comfortable seat for you. As your baby grows, this can become a nice reading area, cool fort or fun "mountain" to climb over. Nugget comes in so many colors that it's easy to find an option that matches the decor of your house. Plus, this one can be easily tucked away and stored if you need extra space.
