As E gets older each holiday has become more fun and special; he’s starting to recognize holiday figures like Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny and is now able to participate in holiday traditions like dying Easter eggs and our annual “bunny secrets” aka Easter egg hunt. My Mom always did an amazing job of making the holidays memorable and being able to build these memories with my own family makes things even more special.
This year Christmas was the first holiday I felt E was actually truly aware of. He was so sweet to make sure that for any present he opened his baby sister had one as well. As spring approaches we have begun talking about the Easter Bunny and Easter egg hunts, but his Easter Basket will be a “surprise”. If you read last year's Easter Basket Post you know that Katie and I steer away from candy for our boys, so we do our best to find fun, sensory-friendly items that will help support growth and development and that they will actually use! As they get older it gives us the opportunity to be even more creative with what we find.
Read along to see what we’re putting in their Easter Baskets this year
Rain Boots
What little boy doesn't love stomping through the puddles?! Katie and I have been lucky enough to find an amazing daycare provider who watches both of our boys (we are so lucky to get to watch them grow up together!) Our wonderful provider, Ms. Allie, sends us pictures throughout the day and anytime it rains we get pictures of our boys stomping through the puddles. It's so important for little ones to spend time outside and get messy! BUT that doesn't mean they should ruin their shoes (lol) so last year, and this year, I got E rain boots for Easter so he can stomp through as many puddles as he wants!
Carrot Bubbles
Find me a toddler who doesn't love bubbles ... I'll wait. I have a toddler of my own and have worked with hundreds of them and I have yet to find a kiddo who doesn't love popping bubbles. When Katie found this carrot bubble wand at the Target dollar spot she knew it would be the perfect addition to the boys' Easter Baskets. These are awesome for outdoor fun and can be used to work on hand-eye and gross motor coordination. Try having your little one clap or stomp to pop the bubbles. If you can't find this at your local Target, there are other Easter options (like this one from Walmart) that are available too!
Rain Coat
Did I mention how much my son loves playing in puddles?! Spring time in Michigan means lots and lots of rain, so to go along with his rain boots I snagged him an awesome new rain coat.
Bilingual Egg Puzzle
Last year I was able to find a color/shape sorter puzzle in the shape of eggs (how perfect for Easter?) This year, when I found a Color and Egg matching puzzle I knew it would be the perfect upgrade from last year! An added benifit, it teaches littles the spanish word for each color. Fun and educational!
Sunnies
Last Fourth of July, Katie bought both of the boys a pair of red, white and blue sunglasses from the dollar store. E loves them and anytime Mom or Dad have their sunglasses on he requests his "sunnies" With summer right around the corner I decided to order him another pair as an Easter basket stuffer. This pair from Amazon match his Dad's favorite pair of aviators and are made from a flexible material so that they're less likely to break. Plus, they come with a strap to help them stay on a VERY active toddler!
Carrot Farm Sorting Game
Spring is a great time to begin planning and planting your garden. E started taking an interest in our garden last year, and by that I mean picking all of the raspberries and cherry tomatoes and popping them in his mouth as quickly as he can. I didn’t get to make any salsa last year because he would eat all of the cherry tomatoes before I could get to them. When I saw this adorable carrot farming/sorting game I knew I had to snag it for his Easter basket. It's great for fine motor skills, color recognition and color/shape sorting.
