Tips for this recipe:

  • Maple sugar is best - but coconut sugar will work for this easy candied bacon recipe! You could even use maple syrup if needed. This has not been tested with any refined sugars such as brown sugar or cane sugar, so I can’t tell you how it would taste if you opted to use that.

  • Pistachios can be expensive - it costs more to buy pistachios shelled. If you don’t mind a little extra work, you can save some $$ by taking them out of the shells yourself. Since you only need a few tablespoons for this whole candied bacon recipe, it’s not too bad!

  • This is best fresh - I don’t recommend making this candied bacon recipe in advance. It’s best to eat fresh out of the oven.

Easy Paleo Candied Bacon Recipe with Pistachios

Prep: 5 min Cook time: 20 min Total time: 25 min

INGREDIENTS:

1 package uncured, sugar free bacon (I like Pederson’s or Wellshire Farms)
1-2 Tbsp maple sugar
2-3 Tbsp pistachios, chopped/crushed

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Turn the oven on to 400 degrees.

  2. Cover a baking sheet with tin foil. If you have one, you can place a rack on top of the foil to help separate the bacon from the grease, but it isn’t necessary.

  3. Spread the bacon across the sheet and then cook it in the oven for about 15 minutes.

  4. While the bacon is cooking, chop/crush the pistachios using a mallet or food processor. In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and pistachios.

  5. After 15 minutes, remove the bacon from the oven. Cover each piece with the nut/sugar mixture. You can use all of the mixture or part of it depending on how you’d liked it. I recommend lightly covering each and then going through and adding a bit more.

  6. Place the bacon back in the oven until it is cooked to your liking. I tend to cook mine for about 5 minutes more. Remove it from the oven when done and let it cool briefly before serving.
