Best Baby Rattle - A Full NogginStik Light-Up Rattle Review

As a new Mom, buying baby toys is a hard pill to swallow. The first year of life, babies change so quickly and drastically that I knew most toys would only get used 1-2x. Sure, there are some exceptions, but this baby rattle is by far my absolute favorite baby toy. The SmartNoggin NogginStik Baby Rattle was E's favorite toy from the time he was three months old to about a year old and when I broke this bad boy out again for baby Rea he immediately started playing with it again! We have definitely gotten our moneys worth from this toy and it's one I think everyone should have!

How this Baby Rattle is Different

There are so many baby rattles out there! Wooden rattles, stuffed animals that rattle, even silver rattles. They come in almost every shape and size, so what makes the SmartNoggin NogginStik Baby Rattle different?!

  • It lights up - The adorable little monkey face lights up red, blue and green when tapped. These lights are not only fun, but they help baby develop their visual tracking skills too.
  • The handle is textured - This not only makes the rattle easier for baby to hold, and improves grip skills, but also provides sensory input to your baby's hand (and let's be honest...mouth)
  • The base - This rattle has a wide round base which allows it to stand up on its own. This makes it a great option for your baby when they're doing tummy time or sitting up.
  • It has a mirror - The bottom of this rattle is a small circular mirror. We know babies love looking at themselves and this is another easy option for them!

How to Play with the NogginStik Baby Rattle

When I tell you that I love this rattle, I mean it! The NogginStick light-up rattle was the toy that helped E learn to roll. He would track the light while I moved it side to side during tummy time and he would follow the light so as he turned his head he rolled from belly to back for the first time. It was so exciting! As a pediatric PT it's such a cool thing to see a toy actually help with a baby's development. Here are some things to do with this toy to help your baby's developing brain:

  • Visual Stimulation and Development - baby will begin recognizing the changing lights as the rattle changes from blue to red to green.
  • Visual Tracking - baby will follow the light and develop visual tracking skills while you move it slowly up, down, side to side.
  • Cause and Effect - baby will learn to understand that tapping the rattle causes the color to change.
  • Auditory Stimulation - baby will enjoy the rattling sound as you shake it, which will stimulates brain development
  • Oral and Tactile Stimulation - baby will love feeling and mouthing the bumpy texture of the handle as you let them work on their grip around the rattle

Overall, the NogginStik Light-Up Rattle is the baby toy we recommend the most to any new parents! If you’re expecting, be sure to get this one on your registry. If you’ve got a little one at home, this is a great item to pick up. The price tag can be a bit jarring when you think “for a baby rattle?!” but this baby rattle is worth if 5x over. You’ll get longevity, durability and most importantly, your baby will love growing and learning with this toy!
