As much as we love simple sensory bins, some can be a bit more intricate to make. This is not one of those bins! It takes about 10 seconds to set this rainbow sensory bin up and provide a variety of fun for your kiddo. We love that this bin uses just a few items but allows for more than one way to play and create. This sensory bin does use some smaller sized pom-poms so you’ll still want to keep a close eye on your kids while they are playing. Below, we will recap what you need to make this Rainbow Sensory Bin and then let you know how your kids can use their creativity while working on their fine motor skill development!

How to Assemble this Rainbow Sensory Bin:

This pom-pom sensory bin requires no preassembly, which we love! Just dump your poms into a bin and make sure you have your rainbow and tweezers handy.

Mom tip: For added fine motor work, keep your poms in a small tupperware or mason jar. Have your child scoop them out and put them in the bin to help with set up of this rainbow sensory bin.

Start the Fun!

Have your child use the tweezers to pick up pom-poms and place them on the wooden rainbow. Utilizing the tweezers will work their fine motor skills and having them drop the poms in lines will really work the precision! Start by having them practice just this, then move on to more difficult tasks such as sorting the lines by color or size.

What I love about sensory activities like this rainbow activity bin is the versatility it offers. All it takes is a little creativity and you can let the creativity soar!

More Ways to Play!

These are several ideas of different ways your children can learn and play with this bin:

Color Sort:
Give your child a color and have them place all the pom-poms of that color on the rainbow.

Line Up by Size:
Use the tweezer to pull out any small red poms first to line up, then gradually find and place larger poms. Do this with a different color for each line.

ROYGBIV:
Use this as an opportunity to work on the colors and order of the rainbow! Find ROYGBIV poms and make your rainbow.

Count the Poms:
How many poms can you fit in one line or on the full rainbow? What if you use all small poms vs. all the big poms?

Each of these ideas is a fun way to keep your child involved with this Rainbow Sensory Bin idea, but I’m sure there are some that I missed. Tell us below how else you would use this sensory bin!
